The City of Springfield works off a five-year Capital Improvement Program developed from citizen input and approved by City Council and the Planning and Zoning Commission. Many construction projects are funded by the voter-approved 1/4 cent capital improvements tax or the 1/8 cent voter-approved transportation tax.
For further information, contact Stephen A. Meyer, Superintendent of Street Maintenance, 864-1965.

The Missouri Department of Transportation site (MoDOT) provides state-wide, up-to-the-minute postings on conditions and construction of our region's state highways. Springfield and our District 8 information is easily accessed using MoDOT's site's map.

The local Ozarks Traffic site lists up-to-the-minute construction progress and anticipated delays.

During winter months, a map of Springfield's snow routes is available for download.

Glenstone Avenue (Business 65 ) at Primrose Street widening
One southbound lane of Glenstone Avenue and one eastbound lane of Primrose Street will be closed at night during the week. Contractor crews will work to widen the roadways on the southwest corner of the intersection. The lane closings will take place between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.

During the daytime, crews will remove concrete curb on the southeast corner and install storm drains. All of the work will take place AWAY from traffic.
Drivers should be alert for large equipment and dump trucks entering and leaving work areas with traffic.

There will be no daytime lane closings at the intersection. All lane closings will be done at night between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.

The work is part of a project to add dual left turn lanes at the intersection, build right-turn lanes, install new storm drains and add new traffic signals.
Scheduled completion: November 2008.

Route 60/Glenstone Avenue Interchange
Crews will build curb and gutters along Republic Road near the YMCA.

Crews will work to rebuild Harvard Avenue on the south side of Republic Road.
Republic Road is closed between a point east of Charleston Avenue and a point west of Old Glenstone Avenue through fall 2008.

Crews are building a stormwater detention basin at the intersection of Republic Road and Harvard Avenue.

Drivers may be stopped on Glenstone Avenue at Old Glenstone at times to allow dump trucks to cross the road.

Drivers are urged to use Glenstone Avenue, Route 60 (James River Freeway) and National Avenue to get around the closing of Republic Road.

The work scheduled is part of a project to rebuild and relocate the eastbound Route 60 ramps, raise and widen Republic Road to five lanes and build a new intersection at Republic Road/Harvard Avenue/Route 60 eastbound ramps.

Scheduled completion: Fall 2008.

Chestnut Expressway / National Avenue Intersection Widening
Crews will pour concrete to build traffic signal bases and islands on various corners of the intersection.

The work is part of a project to add dual left-turn lanes in all four directions, build new
right-turn lanes on three of the four corners (a right turn-lane already exists on the southeast corner), smooth out the intersection and add new traffic signals.

Scheduled completion: August 2008.

  • repair concrete pavement on Chestnut Expressway at Kansas Expressway, and
