Use Care on the Cloverleafs

Springfield police officers frequently work traffic accidents at the large cloverleaf intersections on the City’s highways. These intersections include James River Expressway and Highway 65, Interstate 44 and Highway 65, and Glenstone and Interstate 44.

Drivers who don’t follow the rules when entering and exiting the different roadways often cause these accidents. Yield signs are in place to show that traffic that is already on the roadway you want to enter has the right-of-way. Some of the highway traffic will be preparing to exit the road at an upcoming off-ramp and will not be able to change lanes to give you a clear road to pull onto. Do not pull out from an on-ramp in front of traffic that is traveling at highway speeds. This is dangerous for all parties involved. Wait until traffic clears and you can proceed safely.
