For Immediate Release: Charges filed in Springfield homicide case

Charges of 2nd Degree Murder and Armed Criminal Action have been filed against Bobby G. Cope, age 29 of Springfield, MO. Police had arrested Cope in connection with the beating death of William C. Wetter, age 71 of Springfield, MO. The incident occurred early this morning near the intersection of Broadway and Commercial St. Witnesses indicated the beating occurred after an argument broke out between Wetter and Cope for unknown reasons.

Investigation into the incident is ongoing. Cope’s bond was set at $100,000.
