For Immediate Release: Springfield Police investigate 10th motor vehicle fatality crash of 2008

Yesterday morning at approximately 8:08 a.m., a fatal crash occurred at the intersection of Division and LeCompte in Springfield. The crash occurred in the intersection as an eastbound car was turning north onto LeCompte and a westbound motorcycle, operated by Larry Taylor, age 31, of Strafford, MO, collided in the intersection. A number of factors contributed to the crash.

Police investigation revealed that the motorcyclist was traveling at a high rate of speed as he approached the intersection. A dip in the roadway east of the crash location, combined with other traffic and glare from the morning sun, may have hindered the ability of both drivers to see each other prior to the crash.

Taylor was declared dead at the scene. The other driver was transported by EMS with non-life-threatening injuries. Taylor was not wearing a helmet. The investigation into the crash is ongoing. Taylor's family has been notified.
