For Immediate Release: 2008 Springfield Police Citizens Academy in session
Fifteen citizens are about to get a taste of what it takes to be a Springfield Police Officer. The department's Citizen's Police Academy begins August 4, 2008.
The Citizen's Police Academy is designed to allow citizens an opportunity to experience some of the same training police officers receive. Also, they'll garner "hands on" experience with situations that law enforcement officers must deal with on a daily basis.
For eleven weeks, students will sit through classes covering topics related to police policy, organizational structure, legal issues, investigative process, tactics, and the challenges involved in promoting a safe community.
Classes are held one evening per week for approximately 3 hours. There is no cost for those attending the class. Enrollment is typically limited to approximately 25 persons in each academy.
