Minimum Requirements
All candidates for the position of Police Officer must meet the following minimum qualifications in order to apply:
- be a U.S. citizen
- be at least 21 years of age at commission
- be in excellent physical condition
- no felony convictions
- may not have a DWI within the past three years
- may not have three moving violations from separate incidents or be at fault in more than two accident in the past 18 months
- meet vision standards
- meet hearing standards
- no objectionable tattoos and no visible tattoos in a short sleeve uniform shirt
- may not have used a controlled substance illegally within the last three years
- possess 60 semester hours from an accredited college or university
OR
two years of active duty military service with an honorable discharge
OR
possess a Missouri POST Class A Peace Officer License
OR
possess a Missouri POST Class B Peace Officer certification as a peace officer plus two years reserve or part-time law enforcement experience
OR
possess 30 semester hours from an accredited college or university plus three years of experience as a Springfield Police Cadet
