Ribbon-Cutting at St. Louis and National Celebrates Improvements

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 9:15 a.m., Tuesday, July 18, 2006, at the southeast corner of National Avenue and St. Louis Street to celebrate the completion of the intersection and stormwater management improvements.

The project, completed 16 days ahead of schedule, includes additional turn lanes, sidewalk and stormwater management enhancements, and installation of traffic signal supports consistent with the Jordan Valley Park lighting.

The additional turn lane and signal improvements will benefit area businesses and residents through improved traffic flow and enhanced safety. The stormwater management improvements will address the flooding in the intersection.

This $420,000 project was funded by the 1/4-cent Capital Improvements Sales Tax.

The general contractor for the project was Hartman and Company, Inc. ESC Engineers and Architects provided design and engineering services. Surveying services for this high-priority project were provided by Matthews & Associates, Inc. Lee Tiehen, Public Works Engineering, was the engineer in charge. Ed Hudson and Jim St. Clair, Public Works, provided inspection services for the project. Steve Shanholtzer, Public Works Engineering, coordinated the right-of-way acquisition. Paving, signing and striping services were provided by the Public Works Department.

“We sincerely appreciate the cooperation and patience of local business owners, including Dillon’s, which donated a temporary construction easement during the project,” said Springfield Public Works Director, Marc Thornsberry.
