Emergency Communications Fact Sheet
A 1/8 cent sales tax was passed
in April of 2007 that will fully fund the department and provide
jobs for approximately 20 additional employees, and create reserve
funds for both equipment and a future building.
The Emergency Communications
Department currently answers all 911 calls in Greene County, with
the exception of the City of Republic. We dispatch for seven municipal
police departments, 13 fire departments and the sheriff's department.
The medical calls are transferred to one of the two ambulance companies
in the county.
Currently, the department
has a Director, an Assistant Director, Administrative Assistant,
3 Shift Supervisors, 2 Senior Telecommunicators, 1 Training Coordinator,
1CAD Coordinator, 1Computer Programmer and an authorized staff of
50 Telecommunicators.
The Motorola Computer
Aided Dispatch system went on-line on October 27, 2003. The system
is county wide, connecting the Emergency Communications Department,
Greene County Sheriff's office, Springfield Police Department, Springfield
Fire Department and the Republic Police/Fire Departments.

911 calls are confidential and are protected as such under Revised State Statute
of Missouri 610.050.
"Any information acquired by a law enforcement agency
by way of a complaint or report of a crime made by a telephone contact using
the emergency number, '911', shall be inaccessible to the general public.
Such information shall be available upon request by law enforcement agencies
or the division of workers compensation or pursuant to a valid court order
authorizing disclosure upon motion and good cause shown."
